We had many sounds in our heads: the flute playing of John McKenna, the piping of Michael Carney and Patsy Touhey, the music of Donegal fiddle legends John and Mickey Doherty, James Byrne, and Vincent Campbell, and of course the foundational 78s of Coleman, Killoran, and Morrison. We’ve spent an awful lot of time together at sessions and house parties, playing tunes until dawn and talking about the finer points of obscure 78s over coffee until late the next day. We’ve been fortunate to spend our formative musical years in this scene. Up and down the Eastern seaboard, a generation of young(ish) musicians play with a passion that’s coupled with respect and admiration for the music of generations past. We live in a great time for traditional Irish music in America. Alex Monaghan, The Living Tradition, August 2019 There's no shortage of tunes or quality on The Glory Reel, and I look forward to hearing more from these three versatile musicians. Highly recommended to anyone who likes music that is informed by and stays faithful to the tradition.
